2. What was learned
The ISAM literature gives the desktop four constraints:
- ISAM is a national priority and an emerging industry. The White House strategy and COSMIC consortium are accelerating standards and capabilities.
- IDSS/NDS is the leading docking standard. It is androgynous, low-impact, and supports autonomous docking.
- Robotic servicing requires mechanical, electrical, fluid, and data interfaces. A servicer-friendly spacecraft must provide all of them in a documented form.
- Standards evolve. The desktop should track them rather than commit prematurely to a single interface.
3. What was decided
The desktop will be designed as ISAM-aware, not ISAM-compliant on day one. This means:
- The attachment grid and segment interfaces will be documented in ISAM-relevant terms.
- External grapple, alignment, and connector features will be included where they do not add unacceptable mass or complexity.
- Standard connectors and protocols will be preferred for cross-segment power and data.
- The design will avoid burying serviceable components and will leave room for future robotic access.
- The program will track IDSS, COSMIC, and CONFERS developments and be prepared to adopt or adapt as standards mature.
4. Interaction with earlier arcs
