2. Minimum success

The rack and cell assembly passes the vibration and shock test if:

  • No structural part cracks, deforms, or separates.
  • All fasteners remain within their torque specification after the test.
  • All connectors maintain electrical continuity and proper retention.
  • Each cell still seats, latches, and extracts correctly.
  • The thermal interface resistance does not exceed its design budget.
  • Any powered electronics continue to function through and after the test.

This minimum says the assembly survives the launch environment and remains functional.

3. Full success

A stronger result would add:

  • No resonant mode of the rack lies within the most energetic part of the launch spectrum.
  • Insertion and extraction force after the test are unchanged from the pre-test baseline.
  • Repeated shock events do not loosen the assembly.
  • The test article is fit for flight or for additional qualification testing without rework.

This stronger result supports a claim of margin, not just survival.

4. Failure modes

The test fails if any of the following occur:

  • A cell loosens in its rails or becomes unseated.
  • A connector pin loses continuity or backs out of its housing.
  • A fastener loosens beyond specification.
  • A structural member cracks or yields.
  • A cable chafes, breaks, or pulls out of its restraint.
  • The thermal interface degrades beyond the design budget.
  • A resonance produces local acceleration that exceeds component ratings.

Each failure mode points to a fix: stiffer rails, better connector locks, thread-locking compound, cable clamps, or mass relocation.
