2. What Earth observation means for the desktop
The desktop is not primarily an Earth observation satellite. It is a platform. But Earth observation is one of the most mature and demanded space services. A sensor attachment that looks down could:

5. The competition
Earth observation is a crowded market. Planet, Maxar, Airbus, BlackSky, and many others already operate constellations. The desktop cannot compete on coverage alone. Possible differentiators:
- Flexibility: custom sensors, tasking, and rapid integration.
- Persistence: staying over a region longer than a passing constellation.
- Combined services: imagery plus compute, storage, or communications.
- Niche data: spectral bands, RF, or atmospheric measurements not widely available.
The desktop’s advantage is not being another Earth imager. It is being a platform that can host imagers and process their output.
